Stewardship Thought For The Week

Today’s readings speak of hospitality.  Abraham, who cheerfully did for his guests all that desert hospitality required, was rewarded with his heart’s desire – a son.  Martha also busied herself with all the details of hospitality, but grudgingly and with complaint.  Am I cheerful or a grudging giver?

Enjoy the summer!

Bishop Evans

This coming Saturday evening, Bishop Evans our new Auxiliary Bishop will be celebrating the 4:00PM Mass.  We are most pleased with his visit and look forward to many more in the future.  Immediately following the Mass we will have our Annual Picnic.  This being the year of Evangelization, we are welcoming 36 new families who have joined our parish since 01/01/2010.  They will be recognized at mass and our guests at the picnic.  We had hoped to include Bishop Evans however due to change in plans he will not be moving to Vellone Road.  However, we have made it known to him that he is welcome here anytime no matter where he hangs his Miter!

One Hundred-Fifty Two Years

Sunday, July 18th, we celebrate the anniversary of our establishment as a parish under the reign of Pope Pius IX.  In those 152 years many wonderful and amazing things have happened.  And with God’s help and a lot of work, the work of this parish will continue for a long time.  Last week I drove by St. Lawrence Church in Centredale, and noticed that its Rectory and former School are for sale.  I learned later that the Church will be sold as well, due to demographic changes as well as the age of the congregation.  They are 103 years old.  Now we do not want this to happen to us.

Something To Give Serious Thought

Last year at our parish meeting the suggestion was made to add a Mass on Sunday evening.  Well we are going to try to see how it will do.  It will run from after Labor Day until Father’s Day.  We will have guest celebrants on 14 occasions, as our 9th and 10th graders will be required to attend designated Sundays.  The Mass will be of a more contemporaty nature, involving the young students and young adults of our parish.  Any thoughts you have on this matter…let us know.  Only signed note etc., will be considered.

Altar Servers Meeting

On Saturday, July 31st, about 12:30PM we will have a meeting of all altar servers, new and old.  At that time we will make arrangements for our outing and cookout.  We will be contacting each and everyone by phone very soon.

Healing Mass

Thursday, July 22nd, at 7:00PM we will celebrate a Healing Mass as part of our novena to St. Ann.  There will be a Teaching about healing followed by the anointing.  We have two other priests available to assist us.  All are welcome.

Adoration

Each day this week Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will take place after Mass each morning until noon.  This will be a great opportunity for prayer and quiet as well as a time to honor our patron.
